FAQs

People have many questions when deciding to begin a therapeutic relationship. Many questions are best answered directly or in person. Below are some common questions. For more information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at charlene@journey-counseling.net or 248-472-6901

Are therapy sessions private?

As a social worker I follow the code of ethics regarding privacy and confidentiality. This means that your privacy is protected unless there is a danger to yourself or another person, or you have given permission to disclose information. At the first session clients will be informed of any and all exceptions to confidentiality prior to beginning therapy.

What is the best way to contact you to schedule an appointment?

At this time, the most efficient way to contact me is by calling at 248-472-6901 or via email at charlene@journey-counseling.net.

What should I expect on a first visit?

At an initial appointment, you should expect to spend time with the therapist, communicating what has brought you to the office. Expect the therapist to ask some background questions about you and your history. This time is for you and the therapist to get to know one another and to express the things that are most important to you in seeking treatment. Additionally, expect to complete some paperwork and review procedures, such as scheduling and communication practices. For couples, prior to the initial session you will be sent a series of questionnaires that would be completed privately before the first session.

Do you take my insurance?

At the present time, I do not bill insurance companies. I am happy to provide you with detailed billing reports that you may use to provide to an insurance carrier for reimbursement. You can also use the bill to utilize an HSA/FSA.

How long are sessions?

Generally speaking, most sessions would last an hour. An initial assessment would last 1.5-2 hours. However, individual needs allow for flexibility in determining session lengths.

How often do we meet?

This is determined by therapist availability and client needs. Many clients begin by meeting once a week.

Where do sessions take place?

At this time I am only accepting teletherapy clients. This means when an appointment is scheduled, I will send a link to a secure and private site where we will meet virtually.
